Defense is the immediate area to address for Bayern Munich in January. The Bavarian club wants to sign a versatile defender to add quality and depth to the squad. Midfield is another position that could be strengthened in January, while attack will be improved in the summer.
In terms of attacking signings, Bayern have already agreed a fee with Granada for Bryan Zaragoza. The Spanish winger will arrive in Munich at the end of the season. It does look like Rekordmeister will also try to sign a striker in the summer.
According to SportBild (via iMiaSanMia), Bayern are open to making a summer move for VfB Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy. The 27-year-old forward has been heavily linked with a move away from the Bundesliga in January due to a release clause worth €17.5 million in his contract. Manchester United have been heavily linked with Guirassy in the past few weeks.
Guirassy has been in sensational form for Stuttgart this season. He is currently behind Harry Kane in the Bundesliga for goals this season. The 27-year-old has scored 17 goals in 14 league games this season. He also has one assist to his name in the Bundesliga.
Courtesy of Guirassy’s goalscoring exploits, Stuttgart are third in the Bundesliga. Stuttgart would ideally like Guirassy to stay until the end of the season as they push for a place in the next season’s Champions League.
Guirassy will have a good chance of winning trophies if he joins Bayern in the summer, but he will not be the first choice number nine. Kane will lead the line regularly for Rekordmeister next season, while Guirassy will be the second choice number nine. Both strikers can end up playing together if Die Roten are chasing games.
With Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting on his way out, it makes sense for Die Roten to look for another number nine. SportBild is also reporting that if a move for Guirassy is successful in the summer, Mathys Tel may leave Bayern on loan to get regular game time.
In an ideal scenario, Bayern developed Tel into a striker instead of looking for solutions in the transfer market. He has an ideal mentor in Kane at Die Roten to iron out the rough edges of his game. Moreover, Mathys Tel has performed well this season whenever Tuchel has used him from the bench. It would be wise for Rekordmeister to gradually increase his game time next season instead of signing another striker.
