The upcoming international break will give more clarity on Germany’s squad for the Euros 2024. Julian Nagelsmann is expected to make several big changes to the squad as Germany looks to break the run of poor performances in big tournaments. It does look like one of the young players from Bayern Munich is set to get a maiden call-up to the senior team.

According to Sky Sports in Germany, Nagelsmann will include Aleksandar Pavlovic in the squad for the friendly games against France and the Netherlands later this month. The 19-year-old midfielder has been in fine form for Die Roten ever since making his senior debut at the end of October.

Pavlovic is also eligible to play for Serbia. Since he has been playing regularly for Bayern in the last few months, it was not surprising to see him get a call-up for the German national team. The young midfielder has shown great temperament and skill for Bayern in big games this season.

The teenager can play at the base of the midfield and help the team dictate the tempo of the game. It is a monumental achievement for the youngster to get a call-up to the national team in his first season at the senior level.

Germany needs a number six who can play with Ilkay Gundogan and Toni Kroos in central midfield. Joshua Kimmich is expected to play in the right-back position, ruling him out for the number six role. Pavlovic can be a strong contender for the defensive midfield position if he impresses Nagelsmann during the international break. A strong end to the season with Bayern will also boost Pavlovic’s chances of booking a place in Germany’s squad for the Euros.

Meanwhile, Leon Goretzka has not been included in Germany’s squad for the games against France and Netherlands. The 28-year-old midfielder may end up missing the Euros. Serge Gnabry is also at the risk of losing a spot in the squad after being out of action since December due to injury. He made his return for Bayern against Mainz on Saturday.

Manuel Neuer will be confirmed as Germany’s number one this month. The 37-year-old goalkeeper hasn’t featured for Germany since World Cup 2022 due to a serious leg injury. Nagelsmann has reportedly decided to stick with him in the goal after his successful return to action for Bayern in October. Despite Neuer’s return to the squad, Ilkay Gundogan will remain the captain of the national team.
