Bayern Munich are exploring all options to strengthen the defense. The Bavarian club is eager to sign Ronald Araujo from Barcelona, but the Uruguayan defender will not leave the Catalan club in the winter window. Bayern are now weighing up a move for English defender to add numbers in the defensive department.

According to Sky Sports in Germany, Bayern have a verbal agreement over personal terms with Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier. The English defender is open to a move to Munich after holding talks with Thomas Tuchel.

Spurs are also open to selling Dier in January since he is not a key player under Ange Postecoglou. Dier’s contract is also expiring at the end of the season, so Spurs are open to parting ways with him this month for €5 million. Bayern need to give the final confirmation to seal the transfer.

The former Sporting Lisbon defender was not included in the matchday squad for Spurs on Friday for the FA Cup game against Burnley. Die Roten were offered the chance to sign Dier in the summer, but they looked at other options in the summer.

Dier can play in central defense and defensive midfield position. Bayern need cover in both positions after losing Benjamin Pavard and Ryan Gravenberch in the summer. The England international has not played much this season since other central defenders were ahead of him in the pecking order under Postecoglou. A move away from Spurs may help Dier to get back in form.

The move for Dier is far from ideal, but it will tick two positions that Die Roten need to strengthen for the second half of the season. It can be a decent move in the long run if Bayern end up signing someone like Araujo in the summer. They will have more options to explore in the summer if they settle for a cheaper defensive signing in Dier.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports in Germany have confirmed that Bayern will not make a move for Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah. The English defender was linked with Die Roten in the past few days, but a move for him is not a topic at Sabner Strasse. Bayern tried to sign Chalobah on loan in the summer, but a move never materialised. Tuchel will hope that the transfer business for winter is completed in the coming days, which will allow him to have a stronger squad for the start of Ruckrunde.
