Barcelona could make late move for Bayern Munich target
Bayern Munich are not expected to make new signings in the final five days of the transfer window. Barring one, Bayern have managed to sign all their top targets in different positions. The signing of Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen have not been straightforward. While a deal for Tah looks dead in the water, Leverkusen are reportedly not closing doors to finalizing a deal with Bayern.
The Bavarian club wants to sign Jonathan Tah on their conditions, while Bayer Leverkusen have remained firm on their valuation of the German defender (€30 million package). With Christoph Freund remaining coy on transfers, there is still a possibility that Tah gets the move to Munich.
However, a move to Bavaria might not be the only option for Tah in the final week of the transfer window. According to Sport in Spain, Barcelona are weighing up a late move for Jonathan Tah. The Spanish club will consider signing Tah if they manage to part ways with Eric Garcia before the deadline day.
New FC Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has worked with Tah at the international level. Since the Spanish club needs an experienced defender in their back four, Tah could become an ideal and affordable option for them.
Tah has no plan to sign a contract extension at Bayer Leverkusen. The Bundesliga champions risk losing for him nothing next summer. Tah can talk to interested clubs in January regarding a free-agent deal for the next summer transfer window. Leverkusen may slash their asking price in the coming days to cash in for Tah instead of losing him on a free transfer.
Should Bayern make late move for Jonathan Tah?
Bayern currently have four center-backs in the squad. Dayot Upamecano, Eric Dier, and Kim Min-jae were in the squad against Wolfsburg on Sunday, while Hiroki Ito is recovering from a broken foot. The Japanese defender is expected to make his competitive debut for Bayern in October.
Kim Min-jae and Upamecano are good defenders, but they have the habit of making occasional high-profile errors. The South Korean defender had a lapse in concentration against Wolfsburg, which resulted in Wolfsburg taking the lead in the second half.
Dier played well for Bayern during Ruckrunde last season, but he is not a first-choice option for Vincent Kompany. With Hiroki Ito needing time to get up to speed after breaking his foot, a late move for Jonathan Tah makes sense for Die Roten. The German international will bring leadership to the defense, which can prove to be crucial in bringing silverware back to Allianz Arena.
