Despite reaching the semi-final of the Champions League, it has been a disappointing campaign for Bayern Munich. They failed to defend the Bundesliga title and were eliminated early in the DFB Pokal. The Champions League remains their only hope of ending the season with a silverware.

Amidst the inconsistent results and performances on the pitch, the emergence of Aleksandar Pavlovic in the first team has given the Bavarian faithful something to cheer about. The 19-year-old midfielder has cemented his place in the first team as the season progressed.

Pavlovic was in line to play for Germany during the last international break, but tonsilitis forced him to withdraw from the squad. The youngster has a good chance to be in the German team for the Euros if he delivers good performances in the remaining games of the season.

Bayern Munich want to reward Pavlovic’s breakthrough season. According to SportBild (via Onefootball), Bayern chiefs are impressed by Pavlovic’s performances and want to reward him with a new deal with better financial terms.

Pavlovic’s current deal with Bayern expires in 2027. The Bavarian club is expected to offer him a long-term contract in the near future. The 19-year-old enjoys playing for Die Roten after coming through the academy, which suggests that negotiations for a new deal will be straightforward.

Thomas Tuchel deserves a lot of credit for the breakthrough campaign of Pavlovic. He was not afraid to start the youngster in big games. Pavlovic’s best performance of the season came in the Champions League against Lazio in March. The young midfielder delivered a complete midfield performance in a must-win game for Die Roten.

The emergence of Pavlovic in the first team also altered Bayern’s transfer plans in January. The Bavarian club wanted to sign a midfielder last summer. They had a deal agreed for Fulham’s Joao Palhinha, but the transfer collapsed in the final minutes of the deadline day. Die Roten were expected to strengthen midfield in January, but Pavlovic’s emergence forced them to postpone the plan to sign a midfielder until the summer.

Pavlovic has already clocked more than 1000 minutes for Bayern this season. The upcoming two games against Real Madrid will be a great learning curve for the teenager. With more experience and game time under his belt, the teenager will be an even better player next season. Along with Jamal Musiala, the Bavarian faithful is hoping to see Pavlovic be a mainstay in Bayern’s team for the next decade. (Stats courtesy- Whoscored)
