With the winter transfer window just over a month away, Bayern Munich have work to do on a key contract renewal. Dayot Upamecano will be free to speak with interested clubs in January regarding a free transfer in the summer. The French defender is one of the most coveted defenders in Europe due to his form and contract situation at Bayern.

Real Madrid have been heavily linked with a move for Upamecano. As per one report in France, Los Blancos are close to reaching an agreement with the French defender. However, it is not a done deal until Upamecano signs on the dotted line. There is interest in the defender brewing from another European giant.

According to RMC, Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in Dayot Upamecano. The French club is ready to offer a deal to the former RB Leipzig center-back if he decides to leave Bayern. Real Madrid are also in dialogue with the Frenchman’s representatives.

PSG got a chance to see Upamecano’s qualities in flesh during the Champions League clash against Bayern a few days ago. Upamecano delivered a colossal performance in the heart of defense as Die Roten clinched a 2-1 win after being reduced to ten men at the end of the first half.

Bayern remain in active talks with Dayot Upamecano

RMC also reported that Bayern remain in active negotiations with Upamecano over a new deal. The club hierarchy has consistently insisted that they want to keep the French international beyond this season. They are hoping to reach an agreement with Upamecano sooner rather than later.

Bayern will hope Vincent Kompany can convince Upamecano that he will benefit from staying in Munich. The 25-year-old defender has achieved consistency in performances over the last 18 months under the coaching of Kompany.

Kicker (via iMiaSanMia) recently revealed that Bayern had agreed terms for a new contract with Upamecano before extending contracts of Joshua Kimmich, Alphonso Davies, and Jamal Musiala during the second half of last season. The Bavarian club failed to get the deal over the line. The French defender’s demands have changed, with the signing bonus reportedly emerging as a major stumbling block.

Bayern will continue to work on a new deal for Upamecano until he decides to join another club. The Bavarian club has already drawn contingency plans in case Upamecano leaves Bavaria. They have shown concrete interest in Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, who will be a free agent in the summer.
