Bayern Munich are pleased with the attacking acquisitions made in the last summer transfer window. Luis Diaz has hit the ground running for Bayern, while Nicolas Jackson has shown glimpses of his potential.
The Senegalese job has a tough assignment of competing with Harry Kane for the spot of number nine. He had to be content with opportunities from the bench during Hinrunde. In some games, Vincent Kompany has started Kane and Jackson together in the attack.
Bayern paid a €16.5 million loan fee for Jackson. Chelsea also inserted an obligation to buy for €65 million in the deal if certain conditions are met. Considering the number of games left in the season, Bayern are not going to meet the conditions that activate the obligatory option to buy in the deal.
Recently, Max Eberl admitted that the current tendency is not to make the move permanent for Jackson. Meanwhile, Jackson’s agent, Ali Barat, told Fabrizio Romano that Serie A is certainly a potential destination for Jackson in the future. Barat admitted that Jackson is calm about his situation, and he will decide on his future at the end of the season.
"I think the season is still very early. Nico has the AFCON, he's got a long season with Bayern, he's got the Champions League to come through. So I think it's very early to answer this question. Me and Nico will sit at the end of the season and see all the options and then we'll make the decision together."Ali Barat on Nicolas Jackson
Bayern was Jackson’s preference in the summer
Barat also admitted that several clubs, including a few from Serie A, had approached them in the summer, but Jackson’s preference was to seal a move to Bayern Munich.
Chelsea had decided to cancel the deal at the last minute after Liam Delap suffered a serious injury. However, Jackson’s persistence and Bayern’s efforts helped in resurrecting the deal on the deadline day.
The Senegalese forward has five goals and one assist to his name in 18 appearances across all competitions. To be fair to him, Jackson started only six games out of these 18 appearances. It is too small a sample size to judge him. Moreover, Jackson didn’t have a proper pre-season at Chelsea, so he was bound to have a slow start to the season.
Vincent Kompany has been pleased with the performances of Jackson. From Bayern’s perspective, it is difficult to justify spending €65 million on Jackson in the next summer transfer window. Chelsea are unlikely to give any discount since there will be interest from several clubs across Europe.
Jackson will have to play out of the skin for Bayern in Ruckrunde once he returns from AFCON. He is performing well for Senegal, scoring two goals in two games. The Bavarian faithful will hope Jackson will deliver similar performances during the second half of the season.
