Over the last few seasons, one of the main complaints from Bayern fans is the squad's depth when compared to other top European teams. When you look at the teams that have won the Champions League in recent years, Manchester City, Real Madrid, and PSG, all of them had incredibly deep squads that played a part in their success in the competition, having the ability to bring top-class players off the bench who can produce when the starters are struggling.

At Bayern, they don't have that luxury, and it has been the team's downfall in the Champions League over the last two seasons, as we clearly saw against PSG last season. With getting their hands back on the European trophy the ultimate goal, fans have been crying out for more activity from the club in the transfer windows, and it's about time that club executives are being asked this same question.

While speaking with Sky Sports this week (via iMiaSanMia on X), Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl was asked whether he sees a need to strengthen the Bayern squad in the January transfer window, and he gave an answer fans surely won't be happy about. Eberl went on to say:

"We're totally happy with the squad, totally happy with the players. I see zero reason why we should act in January. We have players who are currently at their top level, and other players who haven't reached their top level yet. When everyone reaches their top level and we go on a run, then I don't see why we should act [in January]"

Is Max Eberl too confident in the current Bayern squad?

This is definitely not the answer fans wanted to hear, and the club's refusal to reinforce the squad while other top European clubs are actively recruiting new players will no doubt be the downfall of Bayern once again this season, and we're already seeing the early signs.

The start to the season hasn't been great by any stretch of the imagination, with Bayern currently sitting third in the Bundesliga and are coming off back-to-back draws against Augsburg and Viking in the Champions League, games that could have been won had Vincent Kompany had a deeper squad. Let's just look at Luis Diaz, for example: the Colombian is struggling a lot in the early stages of the season, and while Kompany can bring on someone like Ismael Saibari as a replacement, who is a solid player, had Bayern brought in a player like Cody Gakpo or Florian Wirtz, players they were linked with in the summer, games could play out totally differently.

Michael Olise got sent off in Bayern's Champions League match against Viking, meaning he'll miss the huge clash with Arsenal next week. With the current squad, Lennart Karl is the most likely option to fill in, and while he is a promising player, throwing a youngster into such a high-pressure match could turn out disastrous. But if the club had brought in more experienced reinforcements in the summer, things would be completely different. Bayern's squad is definitely a good squad, but Max Eberl may be showing too much confidence in them when some additions are clearly needed.
