The summer transfer window was stressful for Bayern Munich as they struggled to get deals over the line for their top targets. Bayern missed out on Florian Wirtz as he sealed a move to Liverpool. After missing out on Wirtz, Die Roten had to face disappointment in several other pursuits of attacking players.

Bayern ended up paying a hefty fee to Liverpool for Luis Diaz. The 28-year-old has started the campaign on fire, but the exorbitant transfer fee dampened the excitement around the player. After getting one attacking player in, Max Eberl and Christoph Freund were tasked to further strengthen the squad only through loan signings.

The defending champions signed Nicolas Jackson on loan from Chelsea, with an obligation to buy provided some conditions are met. Die Roten are paying a loan fee of 16.5 million for the Senegalese forward.

Considering several complex challenges Bayern had to navigate this summer, there were concerns around the future of Eberl in Bavaria. However, the German director of sport told the media last week (via iMiaSanMia) that he is not planning to leave Bayern.

"I want to do a good job here. This summer, we've made adjustments on the squad again. Developing talent should never be about hype. We've started to cut costs and generate revenue. That's what we stand for. My heart is here, I have big plans, and I want to be successful with Bayern Munich."

Bayern hierarchy rule out departure of Max Eberl

Eberl has been publicly backed by club chiefs after the summer transfer window. Bayern president Herbert Hainer has also insisted that Eberl is not the only person responsible for transfers at the club. He insisted that executives at the club are working together as a team to get the best possible outcomes.

The former Borussia Mönchengladbach sporting director deserves credit for making big decisions like the departure of Thomas Müller this summer. He has trimmed the wage bill as he was directed by the board.

Vincent Kompany is content with the squad for the new season. There is still a scope for improvement, but Bayern are well placed financially to complete the rebuild next summer. They are likely to invest heavily next summer after having a positive net spend in the recently concluded transfer window.

The words from Hainer and Eberl should put an end to the speculation and allow the club hierarchy to start planning for the mid-season and summer transfer windows.

Eberl’s next big challenge is to extend the contract of Dayot Upamecano. The French defender has entered the final year of his current deal. He wants to stay in Munich, but the negotiations over the wages have stalled. Bayern are hopeful of reaching an agreement, but they don’t have enough time, as big European clubs will circle if Upamecano has not signed a contract before the start of 2026
