On Saturday evening, Bayern Munich took to the field for matchday 12 of the 24/25 Bundesliga season, as they faced Borussia Dortmund on the road, for the first Der Klassiker of the campaign.

For the task at hand, Vincent Kompany opted for a lineup of; Neuer - Laimer,  Upamecano, Kim, Davies – Kimmich, Goretzka - Sané, Musiala, Tel - Kane.

Bayern Munich held to a 1-1 draw away to Borussia Dortmund

Bayern had their first shot of the game after seven minutes, when Kane found Sané out wide, whose powerful striker after cutting inside was saved, with the ball just missing Tel’s head for the rebound.

Around the 20 minute mark, the hosts had their first presentable opportunity of the game, but Serhou Guirassy's effort from a cut-back was well blocked.

Five minutes or so later, dangerman Jamie Gittens put on the afterburners, speeding away from Konrad Laimer down the left hand side, before having the composure to find the back of the net, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead.

Just after the half hour mark, Kane took a knock, and could not continue, with things going from bad to worse — as he was replaced by Thomas Müller. The veteran had an opportunity nearly immediately, but the ball came too quickly at him to be able to steer it properly, and it was a tame effort in the end.

That would be that, and Dortmund would go into the break a goal to the good. By far the worst half under Kompany, and that includes either of the halves against Barcelona and Aston Villa.

Just three minutes into the second-half, Bayern had by far their best chance of the game. Jamal Musiala spun past his man, before laying the ball off to Müller inside the box, but his first time effort was saved by Kobel.

Straight away, Dortmund counter attacked, and needed a late Laimer intervention to prevent Gittens from getting a shot off from a very presentable position.

On the hour mark, Laimer played Sané through on goal, but he dragged his right footed shot wide of the post. Not only did he miss, but Musiala was unmarked in the middle of the box.

Just after, Dortmund had their best chance of the game, but Neuer stood tall to deny former Bayern midfielder Marcel Sabitzer as he bared down on goal.

In the aftermath, Kingsley Coman and Sacha Boey replaced Tel and Laimer. With 10 minutes to go, Kompany introduced Michael Olise for Kim Min-jae in a very offensive change.

With six minutes remaining, an inswinging cross from Olise found Musiala, who scored with his fifth header of the 24/25 season, having only netted two with his head his entire career before this season.

That would be that, and Bayern would drop points for just the third time this season. Frustrating result and performance.
