Manchester United were apparently rejected by former Bayern Munich II head coach Sebastian Hoeneß during the summer break.

Sebastian Hoeneß has established himself as one of the most exciting young coaches in the Bundesliga, having led VfB Stuttgart to second place in the league last season. His exemplary run with the Swabians seemingly attracted the interest of Manchester United, who were considering replacing Erik ten Hag with Hoeneß during the summer break.

Sebastian Hoeneß rejected Manchester United to stay at Stuttgart

According to BILD, Manchester United made an enquiry for Hoeneß, who was flattered by their interest. But concrete negotiations never took place, as the 42 year old "politely rejected" their offer in order to stay at Stuttgart.

Sebastian, who is the nephew of Bayern boss Uli Hoeneß, coached the Bavarians' U-19s and U-23s teams. He also led the Bayern U-23s to the 3. Liga title before getting his first Bundesliga job at Hoffenheim. Hoeneß joined Stuttgart in April 2023, and took them from relegation candidates to Champions League qualification in just over 12 months.

It will be interesting to see what the long-term future holds for Sebastian Hoeneß, who was also linked with a move to Bayern Munich before they decided to appoint Vincent Kompany. He wanted to stay at VfB Stuttgart for at least another season and build on the success of their historic campaign. But he may consider a money away next summer, depending on how the rest of the season goes. Hoeneß still has three years left on his contract with Stuttgart.

Sebastian Hoeneß and his VfB Stuttgart side will be in action against Bayern Munich after the international break.
