Leon Goretzka is set to play his final Bundesliga game for Bayern Munich later this week. The German midfielder is also expected to feature in the DFB Pokal against VfB Stuttgart. He will look to end a successful eight-year stint with a domestic double.
Bayern Munich want to replace Goretzka with younger players in the squad. Tom Bischof is set to get more game time in the center of the park. He has been used in the back four and midfield this season.
The record Bundesliga champions have also exercised the buyback option to sign Noel Aseko Nkili after an impressive season with Hannover. Nkili is expected to travel with the squad during pre-season. He will get opportunities to make a case for himself to be part of the first team squad next season.
In terms of the transfer market, Bayern have identified Kennet Eichhorn from Hertha BSC. The teenager has been enjoying a terrific season, which has attracted interest from several top clubs across Europe.
According to Sky Sports in Germany, Manchester City are working on a deal to sign Eichhorn. The Premier League club is open to loaning Eichhorn to Bayer Leverkusen next season. They are currently leading the race, while Bayern’s Bundesliga rivals- Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are also interested in the highly rated German midfielder.
Bayern not giving up on their pursuit of Eichhorn
Despite Manchester City proposing an attractive offer, Bayern are not giving up on signing Eichhorn. Sky Sports has reported that Bayern held two meetings with the player. The Bavarian club is doing everything possible to secure the signing, including a plan to ensure the young midfielder gets adequate playing time from his first season at the club.
From a financial standpoint, signing Eichhorn from Hertha BSC will not be challenging, as he has a release clause of €12-15 million. The teenager needs to find a club where he can continue to develop and become a world-class midfielder. Considering how Bayern have managed young players in the past few seasons, moving to Munich should be an attractive proposition for him.
One thing is clear: Eichhorn is not going to stay at Hertha BSC beyond this season. The youngster is expected to play at the top level next season. Bayern missed out on a top German talent, Florian Wirtz, to a Premier League club last summer. They will hope for a different outcome in Eichhorn’s case as they go toe to toe with Manchester City for his signature.
