The last three seasons have seen uncertainty around Leon Goretzka’s future at Bayern Munich. The record Bundesliga champions tried to part ways with Goretzka last summer. The German midfielder was not included in matchday squads in the first few games of last season as the club told him that he was not part of Vincent Kompany’s plans.

Goretzka had no interest in leaving Munich despite being linked with a move to the Premier League. He was eager to fight for game time at Bayern. The German international’s hard work paid off as he ended up playing an adequate number of games during the season. The injury issues of Aleksandar Pavlovic and the poor form of Joao Palhinha saw Goretzka regularly starting in the center of the park.

Kompany also spoke glowingly about Goretzka during the season as he became a reliable player for him. Goretzka was one of the first names on the team sheet during the second half of the season. He is expected to start in the round of 16 clash against Flamengo at the Club World Cup on Monday.

While talking to the media (via Sky Sports) during the Club World Cup, Leon Goretzka confirmed his decision to stay in Munich this summer. The German midfielder is also open to negotiating a new deal as his current contract comes to an end in 2026.

"I'm very happy to be at Bayern. If your own club offers you a new contract, that’s a sign of appreciation. So of course, you listen to that. So far, nothing has come yet. For now, that’s fine with me."

Despite having only one year left on his contract, Bayern are not actively looking to sell Goretzka this summer. They are content with his performances, and a decision on his long-term future may come later in the season. Barring any significant turnaround, Goretzka will be playing in Bavarian colours next season.

Bayern looking to listen offers for Joao Palhinha

In terms of midfield shuffle, Bayern are not expecting big changes this summer. They have strengthened this area of the squad by signing Tom Bischof on a free transfer from Hoffenheim. The youngster will be part of the first team instead of going out on loan.

The German champions are open to listening to offers for Joao Palhinha after just one season since signing him for more than €50 million from Fulham. The Portuguese midfielder has struggled for form and game time in Munich. Fulham and Benfica have been linked with Palhinha, but he has no intention of giving up on his time at Bayern. The 29-year-old midfielder is eager to prove his critics wrong next season and play a crucial role in Bayern’s success.
