Bayern Munich have been excellent in the attack this season. Vincent Kompany has managed to get the best out of all forwards. However, the most satisfying success story has been the form and integration of Lennart Karl in the first team.
The youngster has made the most out of his opportunities in the first team this season. His excellent form in Hinrunde ensured Vincent Kompany gave him a run of starts. He has become the youngest player to score in three consecutive Champions League games.
The youngster has seen his form dip a bit during Ruckrunde. However, it is understandable for a young star to be inconsistent in his debut season. Karl has a big role in the last three months of the season as he provides the X-factor in the final third with his dribbling and passing.
Karl is going to be part of Bayern’s first team plans for several years. Last weekend saw Karl turn 18, which further highlights his quick rise in senior football. Courtesy of his birthday on Sunday, a clause in his contract got activated. According to Bild, Karl’s contract has been automatically extended until 2029.
The German media outlet has also reported that negotiations between Bayern and Karl have already started to adjust his salary. Moreover, Die Roten will look to extend his contract until 2031.
Karl not yet thinking about the World Cup in summer
The 18-year-old forward already has 10 goal contributions (seven goals and three assists) in 1325 minutes of game time across all competitions. He has been a difference maker for Bayern in several games.
Courtesy of his form for Bayern, the German media and pundits have tipped him to be included in Germany’s squad for the World Cup in the summer. Lothar Matthaus has urged Julian Nagelsmann to pick Karl in the squad as he can provide the needed spark in the attack.
Karl has played for Germany’s U-21 squad. If he gets a call-up in the next international break, his chances of playing the World Cup will increase. While talking to Kicker, Karl insisted that he is firmly focusing on doing well for Bayern and not thinking about a place in Germany’s World Cup squad.
The Bavarian faithful faith has enjoyed Karl’s progress in the first team this season. He made one error while talking about Real Madrid, but his actions on the pitch and apology for the statement have made sure fans have already forgotten about his statement regarding the dream of playing for the Spanish giants at some point in his career.
