After winning the Bundesliga last season, Bayern Munich saw several senior players leave in the summer. The Bavarian club saw multiple departures in the attack. They replaced Thomas Muller, Leroy Sane, and Kingsley Coman by signing Luis Diaz and Nicolas Jackson. There was no similar overhaul in defense and midfield.

Bayern could see changes in defense next summer. Raphael Guerreiro is one of the potential departures Bayern expect to happen in the defender at the end of the season. The Portuguese full-back is a versatile player, making him a valuable asset to have in the squad. However, his contract comes to an end in the summer.

The Bavarian club has no plans to offer a new deal to Guerreiro. He is expected to leave on a free transfer. However, there is also a possibility of him going for a small fee in the winter transfer window.

According to Sport Bild (via iMiaSanMia), Juventus are interested in signing Guerreiro in the winter transfer window. Die Roten could sanction a transfer if they can get a suitable replacement in January.

Bayern Munich should keep Guerreiro until the end of the season

Financially, it makes sense for Bayern to cash in on Guerreiro in the winter transfer window. However, Bayern have struggled in the left-back position this season due to injuries.

Alphonso Davies and Hiroki Ito are yet to play this season due to injuries they sustained during the second half of the season. Josip Stanisic is currently on the sidelines due to an injury he suffered against Chelsea on matchday one of the Champions League.

Guerreiro is the only natural left-back in the squad. His flexibility allows Vincent Kompany to use him in different roles. Moreover, the Portuguese defender brings a lot of experience to the table. Die Roten should look to keep him until the end of the season. They can part ways with Guerreiro on a good note in the summer.

Apart from Guerreiro, Bayern may end up losing Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae next summer. The French defender has entered the final year of his contract. There is an impasse in negotiations between the two parties due to the defender’s wage demands. Meanwhile, Kim Min-jae is a candidate for sale to raise funds for the incomings.

It will be intriguing to see how Bayern reshape their defense next summer. The last transfer window was far from ideal as they missed out on several targets. Die Roten were scrambling on the deadline day to get their second attacking signing of the summer in Nicolas Jackson.
