Bayern Munich have no plans to make significant changes to their goalkeeping department this summer. Manuel Neuer and Sven Ulreich have signed new one-year contracts, while Jonas Urbig will continue to get adequate game time at Bayern next season as he will become Neuer’s successor in the long run.

In terms of departures, Bayern are keen on listening to offers for Alexander Nubel. The German goalkeeper will return to Sabner Strasse this summer after spending three seasons on loan at VfB Stuttgart. Nubel has been one of the best goalkeepers in the Bundesliga over the last three seasons, which has helped him to earn a place in Germany’s squad for the World Cup.

Nubel wants to play regularly, which makes it difficult for him to stay in Munich. He would have fought for a place in the starting XI next season if Neuer had decided against signing a new deal. As things stand, he also wants a permanent move away from Bavaria in the summer.

According to SportBild, Manchester City and Juventus are showing interest in signing Nubel from Bayern this summer. The Bundesliga champions are seeking a fee between €10-15 million for the German international.

Manchester City are expected to part ways with James Trafford in the summer. The young English goalkeeper has struggled for game time this season as Gianluigi Donnarumma has been the first-choice goalkeeper for Manchester City. It remains to be seen if Nubel is fine with the number two role with one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League.

Juventus are in the market for a new goalkeeper. They have shown concrete interest in Liverpool shot-stopper Alisson, but a move is yet to materialize. Nubel is likely to be next on their list if they fail to sign the Brazilian goalkeeper from the Merseyside club.

Nubel’s high salary will complicate a permanent transfer

Bayern extended Nubel’s contract two years ago, giving him a significant salary. His salary and transfer fee demands of Die Roten have made it difficult for Stuttgart to pursue a permanent transfer in the summer.

Nubel’s wages are reportedly in the range of €9-11 million per year, which is going to be a stumbling block for several clubs. Die Roten may have to sanction a loan deal or pay a part of his salary to seal a transfer this summer.

With Nubel’s participation in the World Cup, more clarity on his future is expected later in the summer transfer window. Die Roten will hope they eventually find a club agreeing to the German shot-stopper’s salary and pay them a good transfer fee.
