Joshua Kimmich eyes treble win with Bayern Munich next season

After missing out on Champions League final by a whisker this season, Joshua Kimmich is eyeing another treble win with Bayern Munich next season.

Bayern Munich ended the season strongly by clinching the DFB Pokal with a comfortable 3-0 win against VfB Stuttgart. After enduring disappointment in the Champions League at the semi-final stage, Bayern had to be content with a domestic double.

Vincent Kompany’s men dominated in German football this season, losing only one game in the Bundesliga. They were very close to going unbeaten in the league. Apart from winning consistently, Bayern also played an entertaining style of football. The Bavarian club scored a whopping 122 goals in 34 league games, setting a new Bundesliga record and ranking second on the list of top-scoring campaigns for a team across the top five leagues.

It is fair to say Bayern were one of the best teams in Europe this season. Even in the Champions League campaign, they clinched an impressive 2-1 win away at Real Madrid in the quarter-final. They agonisingly fell short in the semi-final, losing 6-5 on aggregate against Paris Saint-Germain.

Bayern chiefs are confident that European success will eventually arrive under the leadership of Vincent Kompany. While speaking to Bild (via ) recently, Joshua Kimmich insisted that winning the treble is Bayern's top target for next season.

Kimmich has excelled under Kompany over the last two seasons. Barring a mini spell of poor form, the German midfielder has been largely consistent in the center of the park. He will have a big role to play next season if Bayern have to go all the way in three competitions.

"Yes, absolutely. Success is certainly a reward, but it's also always a challenge to confirm it and make it even better. That will be the task for next year. Of course, we need to make a few adjustments. We've lost a few players in Leon, Rapha, and Nicolas. We'll have to replace them well, and then hopefully we'll be able to challenge again"

Bayern chiefs need to improve depth to win the treble next season

Along with evolving tactically and making the team defensively solid, Vincent Kompany will need adequate additions in the summer to improve the depth of the squad.

Bayern chiefs have been shrewd with their signings over the last two years. They have enjoyed an incredible success rate as new players have hit the ground running. However, last summer the club chiefs gave Kompany a very small squad, trimming the wage bill by parting ways with several senior players.

Die Roten need to bulk up the squad this summer by adding fresh faces to the squad who can push the first-choice players. The summer has not started well as they look destined to miss out on Anthony Gordon. The English forward is set to join FC Barcelona. The Bavarian faithful will hope Bayern chiefs have alternatives lined up to strengthen the attack. Die Roten also need to add new players in defense and midfield.
