Bayern Munich lost significant experience in the midfield this summer as Leon Goretzka left on a free transfer. The Bundesliga champions decided against offering a contract extension to Goretzka. The German midfielder has attracted interest from several clubs, but he is yet to make a decision.
Goretzka enjoyed a lot of success with Bayern after arriving from Schalke on a free transfer in 2018. The Bavarian club decided to revamp their midfield with younger players. They have signed Bara Sapoko Ndiaye on a permanent deal. The 18-year-old will replace Goretzka in the midfield department. Die Roten had also shown interest in Kennet Eichhorn, but he ended up signing for Bayer Leverkusen.
Along with signing Ndiaye, Bayern also want to play Tom Bischof in the central midfield on a regular basis. The Germany U-21 midfielder largely played in the left-back position last summer. He is expected to get more game time in midfield next season.
Bischof has been a shrewd signing for Die Roten. He did well in his debut season, performing well in different positions. While talking to TZ this week, Jonathan Tah praised Bischof for doing well in different roles and backed him to take his game to the next level next season.

Tom Bischof made 39 appearances for Bayern last season, accumulating game time of 1700 minutes across all competitions. He chipped in with three goals and three assists while playing in midfield and left-back positions.
As things stand, Bischof will be the third-choice midfielder behind Joshua Kimmich and Aleksandar Pavlovic. He should potentially end up playing more than 2500 minutes next season. The former Hoffenheim midfielder took up the option to change his kit number to eight this season after Goretzka left the club. Bischof has looked sharp in the first two pre-season games, which bodes well for the new season. A good season with Bayern will help Bischof to get into the German national team. He has been leading the U-21 side.
Bayern are not planning further midfield signings this summer
The Bavarian club completed the signing of Ndiaye last week. The youngster impressed Vincent Kompany during his loan spell last season. His performances at the back end of the season and his potential ensured Bayern pushed for his signing.
The teenager will be the only midfield signing for Bayern next season. In fact, Bayern are not expecting to make any further signings after Ndiaye. They have also signed Ismael Saibari and Nathaniel Brown from PSV Eindhoven and Eintracht Frankfurt, respectively.
