Option 1 - Move to a back three in possession

During the win over Stuttgart, we saw, in spells, Bayern building up with a back three. Alphonso Davies tucked inside as the left sided centre-back, with Kim Min-jae in the middle, and Dayot Upamecano on the right hand side.

A set-up like this would reduce Palhinha’s importance in build-up play. This gave Bayern a 3223 set-up in possession against Stuttgart. The aforementioned back three, Palhinha and Raphael Guerreiro as the two midfielders in front, Thomas Müller and Joshua Kimmich in the next line ahead of them, with Serge Gnabry and Michael Olise flanking Harry Kane.

As a result, Bayern Munich have excellent players capable of ball progession in the back three, but also with Guerreiro in the pivot with Palhinha, meaning that although Kimmich is a bit more advanced, you still have deep progression in midfield.
