Upgrade at left-wing
Despite the negative views from some quarters regarding his age, Luis Diaz is a clear upgrade on the left wing compared to the current versions of Kingsley Coman, Serge Gnabry, and Leroy Sané.
In terms of pace and dribbling ability, Diaz, Coman, and Sané bear similarities. All three are capable of wrong-footing and blowing past defenders. However, the Colombian is much less injury-prone than either of the aforementioned players. Apart from a knee injury in October 2022, which kept him out of action for seven months, he’s proven himself to be more durable over the last two seasons.
In addition to having a greater capacity to stay the course, another aspect of his game that sets him apart from the likes of Coman, Gnabry and Sané is his work-rate. Diaz plays the game in a near-tireless manner.
