Coming off the back of a resounding win against VfB Stuttgart, Bayern Munich’s star goalscorer Harry Kane is already looking forward to the Champions League tie against FC Barcelona on Wednesday.

Face off between the two most in-form strikers in Europe

Harry Kane bagged a second-half hattrick for Bayern Munich against Stuttgart last Saturday and took home the match ball for the third time this season. The English striker has scored a total of 13 goals in just 10 games so far in all competitions this season.

Meanwhile, Bayern’s second-highest all-time scorer Robert Lewandowski who now leads the line for Spanish Giants FC Barcelona, is also enjoying a goal-laden start to the season. The Polish striker has netted 14 goals in 12 games across all competitions and is the current top scorer in La Liga.

The last time these two forwards met each other was on 2nd October 2019 in a Champions League group stage clash between Bayern and Tottenham which ended in a thumping 7–2 win for the Bavarian side. Lewandowski secured a brace in that game while Kane also featured on the scoresheet with one penalty goal for the Lilywhites.

Speaking to Kerry Hau of Sky Sports Harry Kane expressed his appreciation and respect for Barcelona’s number nine ahead of their duel on Wednesday.

"Robert is a fantastic striker, one of the best of my generation. It will be a special game."

Robert Lewandowski is not Barcelona's only goalscoring outlet as they have to his support the likes of Lamine Yamal and Raphinha who have also been exceptional this season. The trio have statistically been the most prolific attacking unit in Europe with a total of  25  goals between them.

Kane speaks on Hansi Flick reunion

The Bayern connection doesn’t stop with Lewandowski as the newly appointed Barca coach also happens to be a former Bayern man. Wednesday’s game could feel a bit odd to the Blaugrana’s Head Coach Hansi Flick as he will be going against a side with whom he achieved a historic sextuple only a few years ago.

"Many of us know their coach very well. We expect a similar opponent to today [Stuttgart], who wants the ball and presses high. It will be a tough fight, but we will take it on."

Kane refers to several of his teammates like Thomas Müller, Joshua Kimmich, Leroy Sané, and Serge Gnabry who have played under Flick for both Bayern and the German National Team. Bayern Munich used to score goals for fun under Hansi Flick and the same can be said for Barcelona right now, who have scored a whopping 33 goals in just 10 league games so far.

Bayern Munich have been a bogey team of sorts for the Catalan club in recent years. The last five games between the two teams have all been won by Bayern with a comically staggering aggregate scoreline of 19–2. Flick will be looking to finally end this infamous streak for the Catalan club as they host FC Bayern on Wednesday.
