Harry Kane hints at signing new contract at Bayern Munich

After helping Bayern Munich win DFB Pokal on Saturday, Harry Kane hinted at signing a new contract sooner rather than later.

Bayern Munich enjoyed a successful end to the season as they completed a domestic double by winning the DFB Pokal against VfB Stuttgart on Saturday. The Bavarian club comfortably regained the Bundesliga title with a lead of 16 points over their rivals Borussia Dortmund.

Bayern came very close to playing in the Champions League as Paris Saint-Germain clinched a narrow 6-5 win on aggregate against them in the semi-final. Vincent Kompany’s men have been competing for a treble for the majority of the season. They will have to settle for a double this season, but this squad will certainly have a good chance to go all the way in the Champions League next season.

Die Roten have been very prolific in the attack this season. Harry Kane has been the team’s talisman in the final third, scoring a whopping 61 goals across all competitions. He scored a hat-trick on Saturday to clinch the DFB Pokal for Bayern. Kane has now equalled Cristiano Ronaldo’s tally of most goals in a season. Lionel Messi remains at the top with 73 goals in a season during his time at FC Barcelona.

Kane is entering the final year of his contract at Die Roten next season. The England striker is showing no signs of decline as his output is getting better with every passing season. While talking to Sky Sports in Germany (via The Athletic), Kane hinted at signing a new contract at Bayern. The English forward insisted that he is enjoying life in Munich.

"It’s not the time to talk about that now, but there’s no panic. We wanted to hold conversations until the end of the season and we’ve got a World Cup still to play. But everyone knows how much I enjoy it here. That situation is calm."

Bayern are also open to offering a new deal to Kane. They have reportedly held preliminary talks with the English forward and his representatives. The Bavarian club believes Kane can contribute at the top level for several years.

Apart from his exploits on the pitch, Kane is a top professional and role model to younger players in the dressing room. It is a no-brainer for Bayern to offer him a new contract and keep him at the club for at least the next four years.

Kane is front-runner for Ballon d'Or

Even though Bayern didn’t make it to the Champions League final, Kane will be a front-runner for the Ballon d’Or later this year. He is the top goalscorer across the top five leagues in Europe. The English forward can further strengthen his claim by having a good World Cup in the summer.

From Kane’s perspective, staying at Bayern gives him the best possible platform to collect individual and collective plaudits. The project at Bayern is moving in the right direction under the guidance of head coach Vincent Kompany. Kane can win several trophies in the next few years if he signs the new deal.
