Bayern Munich had an eventful last couple of weeks. They managed to beat Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final by delivering good performances. Bayern also clinched the Bundesliga title and booked a spot in the DFB Pokal final by winning 2-0 away at Bayer Leverkusen.
After booking a spot in the DFB Pokal final, Bayern had an eventful weekend. They found themselves 3-0 down away at Mainz in the first half. Vincent Kompany made some changes at the halftime mark, which sparked a remarkable comeback in the second half. Bayern went on to win 4-3 against Mainz.
This was Bayern's second incredible comeback win in the Bundesliga. They came back from 2-0 down away at Freiburg to clinch a 3-2 victory. It is a strength of the team’s character and resilience that they have managed to make such comebacks away from home.
However, the comeback wins do paper over the vulnerability shown by the team, which saw them concede goals. While talking to Bild over the weekend, Harry Kane highlighted the key improvement Bayern need to make after the 4-3 win against Mainz to ensure they win the Champions League semi-final tie against Paris Saint-Germain.
"If we don't get our counter-pressing right, if we don't control their counters well, and if we give the ball away carelessly – Paris will be even deadlier in those situations."Harry Kane
Kane is not wrong as PSG have ruthless forwards and a strong defense, which will make it difficult for Die Roten to mount a comeback. Kompany’s men will have to play a perfect game on Tuesday to clinch a lead in the tie.
Bayern had beaten PSG earlier this season while playing with ten men during the entire second half. The Bavarian club defended resolutely and ensured they came away with a 2-1 win. PSG were not at their best at that time. They have gained momentum over the last few weeks, which makes Tuesday’s trip to Parc des Princes tougher for Bayern.
Kane will have a big role to play against PSG
The English forward will have a significant role to play against PSG. Kane was on the scoresheet against Real Madrid in the first leg. He has scored 12 goals in the Champions League this season. A couple of goals in the two legs against PSG will certainly increase Die Roten’s chances of reaching the final.
Kane’s recent form has been sensational. In his last seven games, Kane has scored eight goals and grabbed one assist. He is currently the best striker in the world. The Bavarian faithful will hope the team listens to Kane’s warning about counter-pressing and the English forward fills his boots with goals at Parc des Princes.
