Galatasaray was interested in signing Bayern Munich right-back Sacha Boey on a permanent deal, but ultimately opted against it due to objective reasons. The French full-back is expected to leave Bayern this summer since he doesn't feature in the club's plans.
Boey returned to Turkey in the latter half of the season on a six-month loan spell after an unproductive first half with Bayern. In 17 appearances for Galatasaray, he scored two goals. After the loan, the Turkish champion was reportedly open to bringing Boey back to the place his career took off at a decent €10-15 million price tag.
However, Galatasaray eventually backed out due to complicated registration rules. In the rulebook announced in 2024 by the Turkish Football Federation, a team can register 14 foreign players in its 28-man squad.

Galatasaray's squad currently has 15 non-Turkish players, which means they cannot register Boey, a Frenchman, for domestic matches if they decide to sign him. Besides, there is no reasonable point for Galatasaray to pursue Boey heavily as they currently have three great right-backs on their roster in Wilfried Singo, Rolland Sallai and Elias Jelert.
With the Turkish side withdrawing their interest, Bayern Munich will have to work harder in the transfer window to find suitable suitors for the 25-year-old.
Boey will struggle for game time at Bayern
Sacha Boey arrived at Bayern on a €30 million fee in the winter of 2024. He never found form at the Allianz Arena, often struggling with injuries. Bayern wanted to get rid of his deadweight salary last season but could not find a proper destination for Boey.
Bayern Munich Director of Sport Max Eberl spoke out in a press call during the Tegernsee training camp that the club is trying their best to sell Sacha Boey, who is not in Vincent Kompany's plans. Having said that, Boey featured in both preseason matches against SV Wehen Wiesbaden and Rottach-Egern, but didn't impress much in the right-back position.
Vincent Kompany's right-back rotation has a clear 1A and 1B in Konrad Laimer and Josip Stanisic. Bara Sapoko Ndiaye, Joshua Kimmich and Nathaniel Brown can also be switched around if Bayern desperately needs some replacement.
The situation for Sacha Boey at Bayern Munich is getting gloomier day by day. His first big-money move not only did not pan out but also created a dead end for his career.
Once a highly anticipated right-back with a realistic chance of getting a national team call-up and being linked to Manchester United, PSG and Arsenal before coming to Bayern Munich, he is now a shadow of what he was in 2023.
