Alphonso Davies vs Lamine Yamal

Alphonso Davies delivered another assured performance for Bayern on Saturday. The Canadian full-back has cemented a place in the starting XI since the first international break of the campaign. Consistent game time has seen a steady improvement in the performances of the 23-year-old left-back. He has contributed well at both ends of the pitch.

However, the toughest test of the season until now will come on Wednesday when Davies will play against Lamine Yamal. The Spanish winger has been one of the best wide players in Europe this season.

After helping Spain lift Euros 2024 in the summer, Yamal has continued to shine for FC Barcelona. The 17-year-old winger has five goals and six assists in 12 appearances across all competitions. He can trouble the full-back with his pace and dribbling. Yamal can also play the defense splitting passes if he is afforded time and space on the ball.

Davies can match Yamal for pace, but he will have to frustrate him by not giving an inch in the final third. It will be a big test of skill and concentration for Davies on Wednesday. Bayern can certainly keep Barcelona at bay if Davies manages to keep Yamal quiet on the right flank. (All stats courtesy: Whoscored)
