Dayot Upamecano vs Robert Lewandowski

Bayern Munich have thoroughly dominated most games this season. Along with creating chances in abundance, they have also managed to shut down the opposition completely. The Bavarian club may not have the best defensive record in the Bundesliga right now after conceding three goals to Eintracht Frankfurt before the international break, but sooner rather than later, they will be top of the list if performances remain consistent.

Dayot Upamecano has been one of the key reasons behind Die Roten’s improvement in defense this season. After a shaky start to the campaign, Upamecano has got better with each passing week. However, making mistakes in big games has been Upamecano’s Achilles heel since arriving in Munich.

The French center-back will come up against one of the most prolific strikers in Europe this season and his former teammate Robert Lewandowski on Wednesday. The Polish striker has scored 14 goals in 12 appearances across all competitions. Hansi Flick has managed to get Lewandowski back to his best after a relatively quiet last season.

Upamecano needs to keep Lewandowski quiet on Wednesday to ensure Bayern come home with a positive result. The French defender will also give reassurance to the Bavarian faithful that he is the man to build around in defense if he steps up in big games and gets the better of the opposition striker.
