Kompany’s attacking and proactive game management pays dividends
In the last few weeks, Vincent Kompany has adapted well to different game scenarios. He has been pragmatic when it comes to seeing out games with slender leads. The Belgian coach took up a more proactive approach against Borussia Dortmund when they were chasing the game for most of the 90 minutes.
With Borussia Dortmund sitting deep, Kompany decided to add an extra attacking body in Michael Olise. The French winger replaced Kim Min-jae in the 80th minute. Leon Goretzka slotted in central defense, while Joshua Kimmich was the number six, with Die Roten moving to a 4-1-4-1 system.
The attacking approach paid dividends as Olise delivered the pin-point cross that led to Musiala’s goal. The French winger made a strong impression in 10 minutes, which could lead to a place in the starting XI against Bayer Leverkusen.
Despite having more attacking players on the pitch, Bayern’s defensive shape was not compromised. It was a testament to Kompany’s tactical changes that Die Roten looked more dangerous in the attack and conceded minimal chances to the hosts after getting the equalizer.
Over the last four months, Kompany has shown strong tactical and man-management acumen, which bodes well for the rest of the season.
