It has been a perfect start for Bayern Munich this season, winning all three competitive games. They kicked off their Bundesliga title defense with a 6-0 win against RB Leipzig at Allianz Arena.
Bayern will travel away on matchday two to face Augsburg. The Bavarian club will come into this game on the back of a narrow 3-2 win against Wehen Wiesbaden in the DFB Pokal. There were negatives from the game as Die Roten had surrendered a 2-0 lead, but Harry Kane scored the winner in the added time. Vincent Kompany will look to sign off a productive month with a complete performance on Saturday.
Team News
Vincent Kompany has no fresh injury concerns for the clash against Augsburg. Aleksandar Pavlovic returned to the starting XI in the midweek after being out for a few weeks due to an eye socket injury. The German midfielder will be in contention to get a start on Saturday.
Jamal Musiala, Hiroki Ito, and Alphonso Davies remain the long-term absentees for Bayern. All three players are progressing well in their rehabilitation, but there is still a long way to go for all three to be back in action.
Predicted Started XI
Jonas Urbig was terrific with the ball on Wednesday. The young German goalkeeper couldn’t have done anything about the two goals. Die Roten will keep giving him game time in the DFB Pokal. Manuel Neuer will continue to play in the Bundesliga and return to the starting XI on Saturday.
The selection in defense is straightforward. Kim Min-jae will have to be content on the bench against Augsburg as Jonathan Tah and Dayot Upamecano will start in the heart of the defense. Konrad Laimer and Josip Stanisic will start in the full-back positions after sitting out of the starting XI on Wednesday.
Despite a positive performance from Pavlovic against Wehen Wiesbaden, Kompany is likely to start the midfield pairing of Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka against Augsburg. The experienced German midfield duo has been in fine form over the last few weeks.
The selection in attack is straightforward for Bayern. Harry Kane will look to make it seven goals in August. The English forward has already scored six goals across three games. Serge Gnabry will operate behind Kane in the number ten role. Michael Olise will occupy the right flank, while Luis Diaz will play on the left side of the attack.
Predicted Starting XI: Neuer; Laimer, Upamecano, Tah, Stanisic; Goretzka, Kimmich; Olise, Gnabry, Diaz; Kane
Score Prediction
Augsburg 0-3 Bayern Munich
Considering the form of Harry Kane and other forwards, I can’t see anything but a comfortable win for Bayern Munich. Kompany and the Bavarian faithful will hope to see a clean sheet and much stronger performance from the back four.
