The center-back department was not strengthened this summer at Bayern Munich. The defending Bundesliga champions are content with the options for next season. They have a good mix of central defenders, including one of Europe’s best in Dayot Upamecano.
Bayern are not looking to sign a defender in the final three weeks of the transfer window. However, they certainly have an eye on players whom they can pursue in future transfer windows.
Stuttgart’s young center-back Finn Jeltsch has recently been reported as one of the young defenders Bayern are keenly following with a view to a future transfer. The young defender enjoyed a good run of form in the first team at Stuttgart over the last 12 months.
Bayern’s interest is a matter of pride for young German players. It also brings a lot of spotlight and added pressure. However, Jeltsch is not fazed by the interest from Bayern. While talking to Stuttgarter Nachrichten, Jeltsch insisted that he is firmly focusing on doing well for Stuttgart next season despite reports linking him to Bayern.

Jeltsch is also hoping to get a call-up for the German national team by delivering good performances for Stuttgart in the Bundesliga and Champions League next season. With Jürgen Klopp appointed as the new head coach of the German national team, young players are expected to get call-ups in the build-up to Euro 2028.
Bayern will keenly follow the development of Jeltsch as they may look to refresh their options in the heart of the defense in the summer of 2027.
Bayern could see one departure in central defense this summer
The record Bundesliga champions could see one departure in the central defense during the final three weeks of the transfer window. Die Roten are open to listening to offers for Hiroki Ito. The Japanese center-back has struggled for fitness since arriving from Stuttgart two years ago.
The versatile defender will struggle for game time next season since there are three central defenders ahead of him. Meanwhile, the left-back position has been further strengthened by the squad by signing Nathaniel Brown.
Ito is not a must-leave group at Bayern. The Bavarian club will listen to offers for him, but will be content to keep him if nothing materializes. However, the same outcome doesn’t apply to the likes of Sacha Boey, Joao Palhinha, and Bryan Zaragoza. Bayern hope to find new clubs for all three players before the end of the summer transfer window.
