Bayern Munich had a successful pre-season tour of Asia. The defending Bundesliga champions had a week of training and two friendly games. Vincent Kompany managed to give game time to senior players in these two games. Bayern were also fortunate to avoid any injuries during the pre-season tour.
The squad returned to Munich late on Friday evening. Bayern have granted the players the weekend off. Training will resume on Monday. Kompany will welcome a few players to first-team training who stayed in Munich to continue their recovery from prior injuries.
Lennart Karl is one of the few players who are currently recovering from an injury sustained at the end of the season. The German forward is still far from gaining full fitness after suffering an injury while training for Germany at the World Cup.
According to TZ, Karl was seen grimacing with pain in his back while training individually at Sabner Strasse this week. The young winger has been training along with Serge Gnabry away from the main group. Bayern are still managing the workload of Gnabry and Karl as they are still recovering from respective injuries.
TZ has also reported that Karl will not be fit to face Borussia Dortmund in the DFL Super Cup on August 22. Bayern do not want to take any risks regarding Karl's fitness. Gnabry is also expected to miss the game against Dortmund.
The 18-year-old forward enjoyed a breakthrough 2025/26 campaign with Bayern. He ended up playing 34 games for the Bavarian club. Karl’s contribution was sizeable as he scored 9 goals and made 7 assists. Die Roten have secured his future and earmarked him to be part of their spine for a long time. Considering the number of games he played last season, it is sensible from Bayern’s end to manage his game time carefully.
Bayern welcome last batch of World Cup players on Monday
The start of next week will also see the final batch of World Cup players report for pre-season training. Michael Olise and Dayot Upamecano from the French national team will be at Sabner Strasse for fitness tests. There was significant speculation around Olise’s future at Bayern amidst interest from Real Madrid, but he is set to stay in Munich at least for one more season.
Harry Kane will also be present at Sabner Strasse after a three-week vacation of three weeks post the World Cup. Bayern are hoping to extend Kane's contract as he enters the final 12 months of his current deal. The English forward is content with life in Munich, so Bayern are optimistic about extending his contract.
