Vincent Kompany has managed to get the best out of all forwards at Bayern Munich this season. The biggest success story has been Serge Gnabry. After enduring a difficult last two seasons, Gnabry has enjoyed a fine start to the new campaign.

Gnabry has scored four goals and assisted thrice in ten games across all competitions. He has excelled in the number ten position behind Harry Kane. Courtesy of good form at the club level, Gnabry has been part of the German national team during the two international breaks this season.

The excellent form of Gnabry has led to a lot of speculation around his long-term future at Bayern. He has been a candidate for sale during the last two summer transfer windows. However, he insisted on staying and fighting for gametime in Munich.

The 30-year-old forward has entered the final year of his current deal. Gnabry will be free to talk with interested clubs in January. However, his first priority remains to extend his stay in Munich.

According to SportBild’s Tobi Altschaffl (via iMiaSanMia), Gnabry is ready to do his bit to stay in Munich. The German forward is ready to take a pay cut to sign a new contract. As things stand, a new 2-year contract is becoming a concrete possibility. With the player’s willingness to stay, contract negotiations can be swiftly concluded.

Max Eberl also hints at a new contract for Gnabry

In the pre-match conference before Der Klassiker last week, Max Eberl insisted that Bayern are pleased with the form of Gnabry. The club hierarchy is impressed with Gnabry’s recent development under Kompany. Eberl refused to give away about a new contract, but insisted that a clear line of communication remains open between all parties.

Considering the wealth of experience Bayern lost in the attack during the summer, a new two-year contract makes sense for Gnabry. The German forward can certainly make crucial contributions on the pitch as long as he remains fit for the entire season.

Bayern could still sign another forward next summer. Nicolas Jackson has joined on a loan deal with an obligation to, but that will be activated if difficult conditions are met. If the Senegalese forward returns to Chelsea, Bayern will need another forward. They are showing concrete interest in FC Koln’s Said El Mala. With other areas of the pitch needing addressing in the summer, giving a new deal to Gnabry will be a wise decision.
