After a goal fest in Paris, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain meet again in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final on Wednesday. The Bavarian club has work to do as they currently trail 5-4 in the tie.
Bayern did well to get back in the tie by limiting damage in Paris. At one point, Vincent Kompany’s men were staring at a 5-2 defeat. However, the players showed great resilience to score two goals and keep the tie alive for Bayern.
Kompany’s men dropped points in the Bundesliga on Saturday as they had to come from behind to salvage a point against Heidenheim. The Bavarian club has sealed the Bundesliga title, so a 3-3 draw against Heidenheim will not affect their season. However, they certainly have to improve defensively to beat PSG on Wednesday.
PSG also dropped points in Ligue 1 as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Lorient. Luis Enrique had also rested key players in this game. The French club plays an attractive style of football, which ensures that Wednesday’s game has all the ingredients to be a spectacle.
Team News
Bayern Munich have a strong squad available for the second leg against Paris Saint-Germain. Vincent Kompany has confirmed that Lennart Karl and Tom Bischof will be fit for the game against the French club. Bischof was an unused substitute against Heidenheim on Saturday, but he looks fit for Wednesday’s game.
Raphael Guerreiro has also recovered from a minor injury that has kept him out of action for the last couple of weeks. Serge Gnabry is the only injury absentee for the Bavarian club as the German forward is expected to return next season due to an adductor injury.
Predicted Starting XI
Jonas Urbig started in the goal against Heidenheim on the weekend. The German goalkeeper hardly did anything wrong in the game, but he will make way for the experienced Manuel Neuer. Bayern will hope Neuer doesn’t start the game as he did against Real Madrid at Allianz Arena in the previous round of the Champions League.
Jonathan Tah is certain to start against PSG on Wednesday as he faced the media on Tuesday in the build up to the game. Dayot Upamecano will play alongside the German defender in the heart of defense. Alphonso Davies may get the nod at left-back due to his pace, while Josip Stanisic will slot in at right-back.
The selection in the central midfield is straightforward for Bayern. Despite scoring a brace against Heidenheim, Leon Goretzka will have to be content with a place on the bench. Joshua Kimmich will return to the starting XI and play alongside Aleksandar Pavlovic in the heart of the defense.
Bayern will hope their forwards are at their sparkling best on Wednesday. Harry Kane will lead the attack with Jamal Musiala playing behind him in the number ten role. Luis Diaz and Michael Olise will start on the left and right of the attack, respectively.
Predicted Starting XI- Neuer; Davies, Tah, Upamecano, Stanisic; Kimmich, Pavlovic; Diaz, Musiala, Olise; Kane
Score Prediction
Bayern Munich 4-2 Paris Saint-Germain
Just like last week, it will be a goal fest when these two sides meet at Allianz Arena on Wednesday. Bayern will go for the kill and certainly score goals, but they have looked vulnerable at the back, so Paris Saint-Germain will also get on the scoresheet. Considering their solid home form, Bayern should edge past PSG and book a place in the final.
