Bayern Munich's top reserve team welcomed back the UEFA Youth League with a trip to Norway to take on Viking, in a game that didn't at all go the way anyone was expecting, with the U19's getting stunned in a 2-0 loss, a result no one saw coming.
Coach Dante selected almost the same reserve team that drew 1-1 with Unterhaching last Friday. Only goalkeeper Podar-Stiube was promoted from U19, which won 6-1 against Regensburg in Saturday’s Regional youth league match. Bayern benched several other players from its top youth team.
Bayer II/U19 needed some time to adapt to the artificial grass and other difficult conditions. But the away team had the first chances of the game. Bastian Assomo saw his deflected shot just go wide of the goal, past keeper Christian Florenaes.

Sondre Tveiten breaks the deadlock in the first half, Kelvin Frimpong could be named the MOTM
Meanwhile, Bayern were fortunate when Kelvin Frimpong's attempt hit the woodwork. The next attack, a well-executed individual action by Viking, resulted in the opening goal.
Kelvin Frimpong again turned inside and passed defender Rayan Moumouni. Eventually, Sondre Tveiten had an easy job to score. Bayern goalkeeper Podar-Stiube kept the score from changing with a brilliant couple of saves just before half-time.

With renewed courage, Bayern emerged from the dressing room, but it was more of the same that we saw in the first half. Frimpong again ripped through the South German defense, delivered another fine cross behind Bayern’s back line, and on a second attempt, Elias Arifagic found the back of the net to make it 2-0.
Several attempts by Codjo-Evora, Assomo, and Doyeon Kim also did not result in a goal. The Viking goalkeeper, Christian Aabø Flørenæs, was under heavy pressure in the final stages as well, but Bayern had a bad day, failing to find the back of the net no matter how many attempts they had.

Bayern derbies ahead for both U19 and Bayern II
Both teams (Bayern II and U19) play derbies this weekend. On Sunday, the reserve team plays the Munich derby against TSV 1860 München, while the U19s take on SpVgg Unterhaching on Saturday. The next UEFA Youth League game for the club comes on 21 October against Arsenal at the Bayern Campus.
Coach Dante already gave a post-match reaction on the official Bayern website. He stated:
"We did not do everything that was in our power to execute the plan we discussed. Also, we lacked attacking strength and creativity. This is an important lesson for the boys. At this level, you must play with full confidence and focus, both with and without the ball."Dante
