Bayern's top reserve team resumed play in its regional division with a home game against Regensburg. They had lost one game so far: a stunning 6-1 defeat to Stuttgart almost two months ago.

With Stuttgart drawing, Bayern Munich are back on top of the league. But the game against Regensburg did not go as smoothly as the scoreline suggests.

Efficient display in the first half

The first half was tied, but Bayern were more efficient. Philipp von Taube delivered a solid cross from the left and slid it in.

It was his fourth goal of the season so far. Then Regensburg came knocking on the door. Niklas Schicha had three big chances to score the equalizer, but luck, the post, and an excellent diving save from keeper Press denied him.

Bayern created a few clear chances on goal against Arlind Qela. But when they did, they ended up finding the back of the net. Captain Leopold Schmid headed home a well-taken corner. It was his first goal of the season.

Schicha was having an off day

After Schicha missed again, Bayern struck on a well-executed counterattack. In the end, Wisdome Imade passed Qela on the left. Imade curled it in.

In the second half, the same story. Regensburg striker Schicha did not have his day. Again, he had several chances to beat keeper Press, but the German youth player failed. Bayern surprisingly looked for counters and set pieces.

In the 68th minute, the visitors finally scored. Lars Rakk produced a smart shot that was deflected before going into the goal, making it 3-1. Bayern ‘woke up’ and looked to close the three-goal gap again.

Bayern went rampant late in the game

And it did succeed via German-Togo player Chris Afanou. After the 4-1, Regensburg collapsed. Keeper Qela didn't look particularly good as Dutch lad Roy Snip and Afanou scored again.

After the remarkable 6-1 win, Bayern is back at the top of the youth league. They will play against Viking in the UEFA Youth League this Tuesday. The next competitive game for the U-19 side will be away at Unterhaching next Saturday.
