Following the conclusion of the winter break, Bayern Munich resumed action in the Bundesliga when they hosted Wolfsburg at the Allianz Arena on Sunday.

The hosts seized control from the opening whistle and took the lead after just five minutes when Wolfsburg left-back-Kilian Fischer scored an own goal. However, there was a bit of an ebb and flow to the first half as the visitors drew level eight minutes later.

Luis Diaz restored the lead for Die Roten at the half-hour mark. Following a first half in which the visitors acquitted themselves well enough to trail only 2-1 at the break, Bayern then proceeded to destroy Wolfsburg in the second half by scoring six without reply. Let’s take a look at the three stand-out players for Bayern Munich from the emphatic 8-1 victory on matchday 16.

Michael Olise

Magical Michael Olise was the star of the show on Sunday. The 24-year-old winger picked up from where he left off against Heidenheim before the winter break.

Olise left his mark on the game by being directly involved in five of his team’s eight goals. During his 83-minute stay on the pitch, he scored two and also provided an assist. His first goal, and Bayern’s third, brought back memories of Arjen Robben as he cut in from the right and dribbled past two defenders before curling a powerful shot into the far corner from the edge of the area.

Olise’s performance embodied what it is to be both a brilliant individual and the consummate team player, as he also created four chances, including the cross to Diaz for the second goal.
