In front of a jam-packed crowd at the Allianz Arena on Friday night, Bayern Munich got their 2025/26 Bundesliga campaign off to a flyer by hammering six goals past RB Leipzig.
A first-half brace from Michael Olise, along with a thunderous strike from Luis Diaz on his Bundesliga debut, resulted in a commanding 3-0 lead for the hosts at the half-time interval. A second-half hat-trick from Harry Kane highlighted Bayern’s superiority despite a better showing from the visitors.
From a game in which multiple Bayern players excelled, let’s take a look at the three that shone brightest in the victory over Leipzig.
Harry Kane
With his second-half hat trick in the space of just fourteen minutes, Harry Kane stole the show and deservedly took home the man-of-the-match award along with the match ball.
Kane had an impactful first half as he was involved in build-up play in all goals and also came close to scoring on two occasions. However, in the second half, he took it up several notches and brilliantly finished off three sweeping counter-attack moves to register a hat trick. In doing so, the England captain, despite not possessing outstanding pace, showed that on the counter-attack, speed of thought can be just as effective as speed of foot.
During his 86-minute stay on the pitch, in addition to scoring thrice, the 32-year-old striker created two chances and was fouled on four occasions. Off the ball, he also contributed by winning six of his eight contested ground duels.
