Manuel Neuer
After receiving the kick-off pass from Harry Kane, Manuel Neuer strode outside his box and delivered a long ball back to Kane near the Frankfurt goal. The ensuing flicked header from Kane was pivotal to the opening goal from Luis Diaz just 15 seconds after the opening whistle.
Despite falling behind after just 15 seconds, Frankfurt didn’t just roll over as the final 0-3 scoreline may suggest. In the tenth minute, Neuer denied Ritsu Doan the chance to score a momentum-shifting equalizer, from inside the box, with a sharp save.
Neuer may not have had too much to do thereafter in terms of stopping shots, but he remained highly involved throughout the match in vintage sweeper-keeper mode which was key to nullifying any threats from Frankfurt. Despite having to make only one big save, Neuer had an impressive 47 touches in the game and amazingly completed ten recoveries.
Honorable mentions go out to Joshua Kimmich who was everywhere in midfield and also to the center-back pairing of Jonathan Tah and Dayot Upamecano for being on the same page with Neuer throughout the match.
