Leon Goretzka
Leon Goretzka actually had what, by his standards, could be considered a whale of a game. The 30-year-old midfielder started the game alongside Joshua Kimmich in the center of the park. However, at the start of the second half, Goretzka switched to center-back after Dayot Upamecano, who picked up a yellow card in the first half, was replaced by Konrad Laimer.
Goretzka was just as solid alongside Kim Min-jae in defense as he was alongside Kimmich in midfield. For the game, he had more touches than any other player (142) and also completed the most passes, 133, with a 96% completion rate. The veteran German also created four chances and made 17 passes into the final third.
Shout-outs go to Kim Min-jae, Michael Olise, and Lennart Karl. Min-jae was steady in defense throughout the game alongside Upamecano and then Goretzka. Michael Olise, despite not wearing his shooting boots, created four chances including the assist for the second goal. Teenage sensation Lennart Karl came on for the last 15 minutes and, in that short space of time, scored with a magnificent long-range strike for the second consecutive game.
