Raphael Guerreiro
Saturday’s second-half turnaround was due to the substitutions that Vincent Kompany made after a challenging opening 45-minute period. Chief amongst them was Raphael Guerreiro. The veteran Portuguese defender replaced Sacha Boey at the start of the second half and rewarded his coach with his team’s second goal and then an assist for the third goal.
Guerreiro’s contract may be coming to an end in June, with little likelihood of an extension, but based on how the team is currently constructed, with his veteran smarts, the 31-year-old Portuguese defender remains a valuable squad player capable of meaningful contributions under trying circumstances.
