On matchday 14 of the ongoing Bundesliga season, Bayern Munich surprisingly could only muster a 2-2 draw with bottom-of-the-table Mainz.

Despite playing at the Allianz Arena and dominating the game in all facets, Bayern failed where it mattered most against a team that had won only once so far this season. It was a truly disappointing evening for the home fans as their team had to come from a goal down late on to salvage a point after having scored the game’s opening goal just before the half-hour mark.

Bayern would have liked to end the year at Allianz Arena on a positive note, but they had to settle for a point. Let us take a look at three players who shone for Bayern on Sunday evening.

Michael Olise

Michael Olise was Bayern’s most influential attacking player against Mainz. The 24-year-old winger created five chances, more than any other player on the evening. He is entitled to feel disappointed that at least one of the two big chances that he created wasn’t converted.

Apart from creating five chances, Olise also drew a sharp save from the Mainz keeper with his only shot of the game during the first half.

Off the ball, Olise was his typical industrious self. He won six of his eleven contested ground duels and also won both of his aerial duels and chipped in further with two recoveries. The only thing missing from the Frenchman on the evening was a goal to earn his side the desired three points.
