On Saturday evening, Bayern Munich visited the Volksparkstadion to take on a struggling Hamburg side. After suffering their first Bundesliga loss of the season a week ago, Vincent Kompany would have been hoping to get back to winning ways against Hamburg. However, that was not to be the case as the hosts earned a deserved 2-2 draw.
Portuguese striker Favio Vieira gave Hamburg the lead with a penalty-kick in the 34th minute, but Harry Kane equalized from close range eight minutes later.
When second-half substitute Luis Diaz gave the visitors the lead just a minute after the resumption, it appeared as if Bayern were on their way to victory. However, 18-year-old center-back Luka Vuskovic scored with a towering header just seven minutes later.
Despite the disappointing result, let’s take a look at three Bayern players who managed creditable performances.
Joshua Kimmich
Apart from committing the foul that resulted in the penalty to Hamburg, Joshua Kimmich was otherwise solid throughout the match. The 30-year-old midfielder was unlucky not to have given Bayern the lead when his shot from distance, in the 28th minute, cannoned off the crossbar.
After falling behind Kimmich made his presence felt nearer the goal when he steered a cross from Serge Gnabry into the path of Kane for the Englishman to hammer home the equalizer.
In this game, Kimmich had 116 touches and found a teammate with 95% of his passes (91/96), which included three big chances created. He also had 100% accuracy with the long passing.
