On Saturday night, in front of a packed audience at the MPH Arena in Stuttgart, Bayern Munich edged out the host team 2-1 to bring the German Super Cup back to Bavaria.

After getting off to a strong start, Bayern Munich eventually took the lead in the 18th minute, courtesy of a superb first-time strike at the edge of the box from Harry Kane when an interception from a defender fell kindly for him.

After falling behind, Stuttgart grew stronger, and it was anybody’s game until the 77th minute when Bayern’s marquee summer signing-Luis Diaz, headed in Die Roten’s second goal. Stuttgart scored late in added time courtesy of a header from winger Jamie Leweling to make the final score more respectable, but it was too little too late.

From a game in which few players gave commanding performances, let’s now take a look at three who were arguably the most influential for the reigning German Champions in their victory over the current holders of the DFL Pokal.
