Konrad Laimer
Another consistent performer on the night was Konrad Laimer. The 27-year-old Austrian mid-fielder put in a fine shift at right-back. His understanding with Michael Olise on the right side of the attack was a bright spot for the visitors on the night. Laimer supplemented Bayern’s attack on the right flank with both overlapping and inverted runs which made it difficult for the opposition to contain Michael Olise.
Although Celtic’s left-winger – Daizen Maeda was the one to score the solitary goal for the Scottish side, it was due to no fault of Laimer as the goal indirectly came from a right-sided corner kick. Laimer in tandem with Olise and at times with help from Kimmich limited the forays of Daizen down the left flank.
Honourable mentions go to Harry Kane for scoring Bayern’s second goal despite not having one of his better nights in the six-yard box; Leon Goretzka for being solid if not spectacular alongside Joshua Kimmich in the Bayern engine room and Manuel Neuer for making a brilliant save late on to preserve his side’s 2-1 lead.
