Alphonso Davies

Having just recovered from a hamstring injury. Davies was omitted from the starting XI. However, in the 64th minute, with Bayern seeking an equalizer, Vincent Kompany rolled the dice when he brought on Alphonso Davies in place of the starting left-back-Raphael Guerreiro, and the inconsistent Leroy Sané for the struggling Serge Gnabry.

With his team in need of a goal, the 24-year-old Canadian spent most of his time on the pitch in the attacking half of the field. Thanks to his attacking instincts he was able to score the equalizer, just before the final whistle, and seal his team’s passage through to the round of 16.

With the next opponent in the Champions League scheduled to be either Atletico Madrid or Bayer Leverkusen (all over again), a healthy Alphonso Davies will only increase Bayern’s chances of progressing beyond the round of 16.

Honourable mention goes to Leon Goretzka who was the closest thing to a center-forward for Bayern in the second half.
