Joshua Kimmich

Similar to Konrad Laimer in the full-back positions, Joshua Kimmich had to work hard in the middle of the park. Rather uncharacteristically, Kimmich had just 76 touches over the course of the match. However, his distribution was up to scratch as he found a teammate with 95% of his passes (62/65).

Whilst on offense he was less impactful than usual, he made his presence felt defensively. The German Captain won all five of his ground and aerial battles combined and also completed two recoveries.  It wasn’t a scintillating performance from Kimmich per se, but on a night when Pavlovic seemed a bit off his game, it was an effective one.

Honorable mentions go out to Serge Gnabry and Kim Min-jae. Gnabry continues to perform well as the number ten in the absence of Jamal Musiala. Min-jae replaced Tah in the heart of the defense for the second half and looked comfortable in helping to prevent Chelsea from scoring.
