Joshua Kimmich

With luck seemingly being a significant factor in determining the outcome of the match, Joshua Kimmich was Bayern’s unluckiest player on Saturday. Just before the half-time whistle, at first glance, Kimmich appeared to have headed in a left-sided cross from Kingsley Coman to give the hosts a commanding 3-1 lead. However, following VAR intervention the goal was disallowed as the ball was adjudged to have made contact with the German Captain’s arm before settling in the back of the net.

Notwithstanding the touch of bad luck midway through the match, Kimmich was otherwise impressive. It was Kimmich who supplied the pass to Goretzka to drive forward and unleash an unstoppable shot to open the scoring in the 20th minute. Similar to Goretzka, Kimmich was excellent with his distribution as he completed 94% of his attempted passes (90/96), including eight of ten passes from long range. He also made five timely recoveries and won three of his five contested ground duels.
