Following the conclusion of the recent international break, Bayern Munich resumed Bundesliga action on Saturday when they hosted mid-table SC Freiburg on matchday 11 at the Allianz Arena.
The visitors stunned a rather sluggish Bayern early on with their aggression and pace. They threatened to cause an upset after scoring indirectly from two corner kicks in the 12th and 17th minutes.
However, Die Roten equalized before the break, courtesy of strikes from Lennart Karl midway through the first half and Michael Olise just before the end of it. In the second half, normality was restored as Bayern scored four without reply to ultimately register an emphatic victory. Let’s look at the key players in Bayern’s come-from-behind 6-2 win over Freiburg.
Mchael Olise
Michael Olise scored twice and provided three assists against Freiburg. Over the course of the game, he created six chances and found a teammate with 92% of his passes (82/89). He also completed five of his six attempted dribbles. The French forward was near unstoppable against Freiburg, particularly in the second half, and was undeniably the man of the match.
After providing the assist to Lennart Karl for Bayern’s first goal, midway through the first half, Olise scored the equalizer in first-half added time with a low, powerful shot, which was just too hot to handle for the goalkeeper despite getting a hand to the ball.
In the second half, the 23-year-old attacker registered two more assists. Olise capped off an all-around brilliant performance with another goal through a curling shot from the edge of the area, which brought back the memories of Arjen Robben's trademark goals.
