Konrad Laimer
In recent games, Konrad Laimer hadn’t been his usual dynamic self, but on Saturday, the 28-year-old Austrian returned to form in stunning fashion. His bold run and excellent control after being picked out with a long ball from Jonas Urbig led to him then darting into the center-forward position to score the opener with an exquisite back heel.
Apart from the opening goal, Laimer combined well with Olise whenever the opportunity presented itself. In the game against Stuttgart, he had 57 touches and found a teammate with 85% of his passes (35/41). Out of possession, he also pressed well, completed four recoveries, and defended well when necessary.
Honorable mentions go out to Jonas Urbig and Kim Min-jae. The 22-year-old goalkeeper only had to make one save in the match, but he was heavily involved otherwise with ball distribution. He found a teammate with 41 of 50 attempted passes (82%), which was excellent considering that 20 of those passes were long balls.
Kim Min-jae started in place of Jonathan Tah and repaid the faith shown in him by his coach. Kim’s defensive positioning was on point throughout the evening, as evident by his nine clearances. His ball distribution was also impressive as he found a teammate with 92% of his passes (44/48).
