Over the weekend, at the Allianz Arena, quite surprisingly Bayern Munich had suffered their first Bundesliga loss of the season in the Bavarian Derby against Augsburg by a score of 1-2.

However, on Wednesday, in the final game of the league phase of the 2025/26 European Champions League, the German champions bounced back from the weekend’s loss as they edged hosts PSV Eindhoven by a similar scoreline in a highly entertaining game.

Prior to kick-off, Bayern had already secured second place in the standings along with passage to the knockout phase of the competition. However, at the end of the match, PSV who needed a positive result, were eliminated from the tournament. Let’s take a look at three players who stood out for Bayern in Wednesday’s victory.

Jonas Urbig

Jonas Urbig was in fine form at the Philips Stadium. With PSV going for the win, the 22-year-old goalkeeper was tested several times in the first half, but managed to thwart the hosts with some brilliant saves.

The highlight of the of the opening 45-minute period was actually a flying save from Urbig to keep out a header from former Bayern player Ivan Perisic just before the half-time whistle. Even though he was eventually beaten for the equalizer in 78th minute, it took a truly world-class strike from PSV’s attacking midfielder Ismael Saibari to beat him.

Urbig also had a huge influence on the game with the ball at his feet. Most significantly in the 84th minute, he registered a hockey assist for the winning goal when, from outside his 18-yard box, he played a superb long ball to Diaz who then teed up Kane for the winning goal. This was truly a man-of-the-match performance from Urbig.
