Leon Goretzka
Kompany decided to rest Aleksandar Pavlovic for the game against Gladbach. The 21-year-old midfielder has been Kompany’s first-choice option to play alongside Joshua Kimmich in the center of the park.
On Friday evening, it was an opportunity for Leon Goretzka to play 90 minutes alongside Kimmich. The former Schalke midfielder made the most out of this opportunity by delivering a complete performance.
The notable contribution from Goretzka was the assist for Diaz. He showed great vision to play the chip pass and find the run of Diaz. The weight on the pass was perfect, allowing Diaz to get into his stride and put the ball past the goalkeeper.
Goretzka completed 95% of his passes against Gladbach. He created three chances in the game. The German international was also solid defensively, making eight recoveries and winning 60% of the ground duels.
On the back of Julian Nagelsmann’s positive comments, Goretzka’s confidence will be sky high. He looks certain to be part of Germany’s squad for the World Cup. This confidence was visible in his performance on Friday evening. Kompany and the Bavarian faithful will hope Goretzka can emulate such performances whenever he is called upon during the business end of the season.
